Yellow Gate

It is possible to find the extraordinary everywhere. For me, it happens when disparate objects come together by chance in the studio or out walking, when the rhythms of twigs in a pile of leaves or the way the sun strikes a gate will compel me to record these fleeting moments.

I have been painting now for many years. I have regularly exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London as well as exhibiting in group and solo exhibitions both in the north west and around the country. My work has been bought for many private collections and several works are held by the Williamson Art Gallery in their permanent collection.

After doing light shows for rock bands in the late sixties/early seventies and printing tee shirts for punk bands in the mid seventies, Dennis spent four years at art college in London. Since then he has taught drawing and painting and exhibited in both London and on the Wirral. He has three paintings in the permanent collection of the Williamson Art Gallery Birkenhead as well as in many private collections.

“I have always had an interest in the formal aspects of still life painting such as composition and the placing of the separate elements within the picture. My latest work is about natural forms, dead leaves, shells, and bird’s nests, all part of a fragile natural world that is under threat. I regard spending time observing and painting these seemingly insignificant but nevertheless beautiful objects as an act of resistance against the fast pace of modern life”.
