Her first career was in the Health Service, and it took Clare until her 40’s to take up painting, completing a BA Hons in Fine Art at Wirral Metropolitan College in 2015. She has worked as an artist and teacher since that time, exhibiting around the UK. She has just left The Lake Gallery partnership to relocate to Devon.

Clare comes from a family of painters where Still Life is somewhat of a preoccupation. Her painting is rooted in a figurative tradition (and more usually a landscape one too) but she enjoys nothing better than the setting up of a still life composition (a miniature landscape in effect) and then painting from the reference in front of her in her loose, painterly style. Colour and light are central in her thinking about her subject.
