Derek lives and works in Liverpool. He studied Fine Art at Staffordshire University and went on to teach Art and Design at secondary level. As a keen contributor to open exhibitions across the country, he has won a number of awards including the President’s Prize at the 2012 Wirral Society of Arts Open, after which he was invited to become a member.
Much of Derek’s work is based in the urban environment. Working from snapshots and video stills (backed up by written notes and thumbnail sketches) his inspiration is found, most often, in the fleeting effects of light and movement.
