Peter Macaulay has been painting for twenty five years. He is a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, and in 2012 after winning the Charles Oliver Award for painting, he was invited to judge the National Acrylic Painters Association annual exhibition. As a member he was awarded the Rowney Daler prize and the Pro Art prize.
The major reference for his work is the human form, often distorted to a degree to express an idea. Despite this free expressive approach, there is a solid geometry in his work. Strong free-flowing lines, colours that sing; his work is a celebration of his chosen subject. The sometimes borrowed palette colours are rendered with oil, acrylic and housepaint and anything that makes a mark. There is little concern for technique or style.
