Deb studied Textiles at Manchester Metropolitan University, specialising in Embroidery. Her work at the time was as much painting and drawing as stitch, and throughout her career and work as an artist she continues to explore these different media.

Deb is inspired by the landscape and finds the experience of being outside in the environment essential to spark ideas for work. Colour is often the starting point for a drawing or painting.

“The way that colours and light change moment to moment through the day, seasons and weathers inspires my work. I can walk the same route many times and always see new views to make me stop and stare. I attempt to capture the feeling of being in the landscape in my drawings and paintings.”

Most of the paintings in this collection are inspired by walking along Offa’s Dyke path, looking from the ridge towards the fields and hills on either side.

Deb lives Chester, where she teaches Art and Outdoor Learning at two Chester schools.
