Janene Waudby

Janene makes ceramics with organic forms and surfaces, as if her pieces are found objects or have occurred in nature. Work is low fired and glaze is rarely used, leaving the tactile clay surfaces to speak.  Janene uses a wide variety of techniques in her work, specially adapted for each series of her work, whether that be tidal shallows, rust, lichen or the earth itself.   The outcome is a constantly evolving body of work all inspired by quiet places where humans have left.

Janene has had a lifetime’s obsession with the sea and nature; walking, diving and sailing all over the world, including around Cape Horn and across the Southern Ocean.  She became a full time artist in 2016, initially living in the Scottish Highlands, and more recently moving to the atmospheric Suffolk coast.  Janene spends most of her time in the studio seeking peace and simplicity away from the man-made urban environment.
