I am a figurative painter working in an impressionistic style across acrylic, oil, gouache & pastel mediums.
Drawing and painting is a lifelong passion of mine and I enjoy the mix of problem solving and exploring creative possibilities it gives. My artistic inspiration is drawn from many sources – most recently capturing scenes from my travels at home and abroad.
My process starts with observational studies to capture the essence of the scene or convey the story I wish to tell – which is often about contrast of light & shade and how it falls upon objects. Using these studies and reference photographs I often scale these up back in my Wirral-based studio. As soon as I have captured the essence of what initially inspired me, I deem the piece complete.
I frequently exhibit in solo & group exhibitions, and my work found in private collections in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia & France as well as held in the permanent collection of the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum.
This exhibition contains a mix of work produced outdoors ‘en plein air’ and in the studio from the West Wirral and my recent travels in Portugal. Each work is presented in a bespoke frame hand painted in Farrow & Ball’s Purbeck Stone colourway.
