Pete Monaghan is a contemporary artist working from a studio in Aberystwyth. He specialises in depictions of vernacular architecture with occasional challenging forays into the genres of still life and figure.

“In still lifes there seem to be an infinite number of variables that the artist can control compared with landscape or buildings. It has seriously called into question my working process; an enjoyable if sometimes frustrating challenge.”

For this, his first show at the Lake Gallery, he has assembled the best of his recent still life paintings. He draws rapidly using a concertina sketchbook and fine liner pen, the linear quality of the drawings allows more open interpretation in the studio where he fuses techniques gleaned from a background in (technical) illustration with mixed-media and graffiti.
