“My artwork tells a story through sketch, paint, and ceramics. I am inspired by an emotional response to a place. This includes the landscape around me and the changing seasons. Also, the local fishing community with its weathered boats and boat yards. Places that you can read their history through layers of texture and colour. I begin my process by working in sketch books to capture how I feel about the environment. I usually experiment further with painting and print methods. The clay is a natural progression from painting and I use similar methods of layering including paper resist, mono print, and Lino for texture. There is a natural flow between my artwork, and I think of the clay as another form of canvas on which to paint.”
